Tree Identification for Beginners

Learn the basics of tree biology and how to identify native broad-leaf trees, along with some non-natives and conifers through their individual features, leaf shape, bark and fruits on this short course.

  • When: Tuesday 11th June
  • Where: Beach Gardens Sports Park & King George’s Playing Fields
  • Led by the Dorset Environmental Records Centre (DERC)

Butterfly ID Training Course

Learn all about the butterflies you can spot in Swanage, along with ways to monitor and help protect them, through a powerpoint session and guided butterfly walk.

  • When: Saturday 15th June
  • Where: Durlston Country Park

Bumblebee Training Course

Get tips on how to identify the ‘Big 8’ bumblebee species, before heading outside to find some and put what you’ve learnt into practice.

  • When: Tuesday 18th June
  • Where: Beach Gardens
  • Led by the Bumblebee Conservation Trust

Wildflower Training Course

This course will take you on an educational stroll through Durlston’s hay meadows, where you’ll learn all about the habitat, history and conservation of meadow flowers.

  • When: Saturday 22nd June
  • Where: Durlston Country Park
  • Led by local ecologist Dr Lindsay Carrington
