Planet Purbeck is holding a special evening of fundraising at Sandy Hill Arts in Corfe Castle today, with guest speakers the Oscar-winning actor Mark Rylance and award-winning journalist and environmental campaigner George Monbiot.
They’ll be discussing how the power of local communities like Purbeck can help effect change on important national and global issues.
Mark Rylance is a patron of Planet Purbeck and, as part of the fundraising event, he’ll be auctioning a signed photographic portrait of himself in his role as Thomas Cromwell in the BBC adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall.
“There is a desire to build up a group of people interested in similar things, such as nature conservation and climate change, so there is a place they can come with concerns – and make a difference with ideas and action.
“I believe in thinking internationally but acting locally. If you change a small or local thing well enough it will affect the rest.”
